DENISTONE is located 16 kilometres north-west of the Sydney central business district in the local government area of the City of Ryde. Denistone West and Denistone East are separate suburbs. DENISTONE is predominantly residential, free of an expedient commercial hub. Its centre is considered to be the railway station, which was built in 1937, extending to Darvall Park.

The nearest retail area to DENISTONE, located in Denistone East is 'Midway', a small strip of retail premises. However, DENISTONE is located near Macquarie Centre, a large regional shopping centre and nearby suburbs have larger commercial areas such as Eastwood, West Ryde and Ryde, which are all within 2-3 km of DENISTONE.

Denistone East Public School is a large local primary school educating over 800 students from Kindergarten to Grade 6 which was rebuilt in 2005 with completely new administrative, assembly and classroom blocks. The school was established in 1950, when the new railway station was established and a new suburb was forming.

Denistone railway station is on the Northern railway line of Sydney's City Rail network.

Darvall Park is a forest reserve near the railway line at DENISTONE. Flora includes Sydney Blue Gum, Red Olive Berry, Orange Bark, Waddy wood and Forest Nightshade. The Ring Tail Possum, Australian King Parrot and Satin Bowerbird are sometimes seen here.
